I was surprised at what a fun and informative afternoon it was.  One of the great things about Sterling is that they talk about their struggles when they first started thinking about gender and that helps everyone feel like it’s ok to be uncertain and new to all of this.

Sandy, Age 63

Sterling is a master storyteller and instructor who crafts their life story using the phases of the transgender experience to teach.  I learned so much, and wanted to know more.

Andrea, Self-Described Boomer

A 2-hour, interactive experience for those of us committed to learning and growing as we age. This Zoom class is limited to 40 people. The cost is $30 and discounts are available for those on fixed income.

In our brief time together, we will explore concepts of modern gender identity.

In small groups, we will have a chance to practice explaining key concepts to one another as well as considering scenarios in which your trans-competence can make a difference.

We will practice the why and how of pronouns.

We will touch on the ways that trans experience is so often compounded by issues of race, class, ability, and gender.

We will also have ample time for Q and A.

Trans 101 for Folx 50+ may be for you if any of the following is true for you:

– Your age makes modern notions of gender especially confusing.

– You are concerned about the many ways that transgender people are under attack.

– You want to support and/or just communicate more deeply with the children/grandchildren and other younger members of your family, community, and workplace.

– You are so afraid of “getting it wrong” that you avoid talking to gender nonconforming folx.

– You would welcome the chance to be in dialogue with others who are navigating these challenges.

This course is NOT a forum for debate. I have taught for decades and have taught this class to thousands of folx. I will protect this space and will not hesitate to eject anyone who comes in with an agenda.
